Akron, Iowa – Former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell will join Congressman Steve King’s annual Col. Bud Day Pheasant Hunt this weekend, planning to join in hunting activities on Saturday. In 2005, Luttrell and SEAL Team 10 were given the mission, Operation Redwing, to kill or capture Ahmad Shah, a high-ranking Taliban leader responsible for killings in eastern Afghanistan and the Hindu-Kush mountains. He was the only survivor of the battle related to their mission. He was wounded but evaded capture and was given shelter by an Afghan tribe. Luttrell was rescued by American forces six days later.
“It is an honor to have Marcus Luttrell join us this weekend,” King remarked. “Like Col. Day, Marcus is an American hero and patriot. We look forward to introducing him to Iowa pheasant hunting and the good citizens who will be joining us.”
King’s Col. Bud Day Pheasant Hunt is held at the Hole N’ the Wall Lodge near Akron, Iowa. Hunting activities will take place both Saturday and Sunday. Senator Charles Grassley will be King’s special guest for breakfast on Sunday morning, beginning at 7:30 am.
The Col. Bud Day Pheasant Hunt celebrates the legacy of one of America’s greatest military heroes. Col. Day himself participated in the hunt during its early years, taking part in an activity he greatly enjoyed near his northwest Iowa hometown.
